He has defended his PhD thesis and became a Clinical Pharmacology Specialist physician at his Alma Mater in Central Serbia. Additionally, he obtained postgraduate qualifications from Hosei University in Tokyo, Japan; the University of Birmingham in the UK; the University of California in San Diego, USA; the World Health Organization; and other multilateral agencies.

Professor Jakovljevic has been an expert affiliate of the CHTF IHME University of Washington since 2016. Additionally, in 2018, he held a Visiting Research Fellow position at Lund University, Sweden, funded by FORTE, in the Division of Health Economics.

Over the past two decades, he has been a Principal Investigator and Grant holder of the largest budget-financed health economics grant in Serbia (OI175014; budget 600,000 EUR; 2011‒2023). As a professional health economist and clinical pharmacology physician, Professor Jakovljevic’s expertise focuses on emerging markets and the sustainability of health financing across LMICs worldwide.

In 2015, Professor Jakovljevic became the first-ever nominated candidate from Eastern Europe for IHEA (International Health Economics Association) Board of Directors Elections. He was elected an Affiliate at the Academy of Medical Sciences Belgrade of the Serbian Medical Society (established 1872) and became the youngest member in the Academy’s history.

Since 2018, Professor Jakovljevic has served as a member of the WHO EACHR Committee member in an advisory capacity to the Cabinet of the WHO Regional Director for Europe, based in Copenhagen, Denmark.

In 2021, Professor Jakovljevic became first-ever elected Ordinary Academician coming from Serbia at the UNESCO World Academy of Sciences, headquartered in Trieste, Italy.

In 2022, he was elected to Full Membership within Academia Europaea, London, UK as the first representative of Serbia in the Section of Clinical and Veterinary Medicine amongst almost 800 members.

In 2014, serving as the Editor-in-Chief, Professor Jakovljevic compiled and published the first comprehensive university textbook of Health Economics in Western Balkan languages.

Professor Jakovljevic has been serving as the Editor-in-Chief for London-based Cost Effectiveness and Resource Allocation, a BioMedCentral publication since 2019 (Impact Factor = 2.803). From 2016 to 2021, he held the position of Founding Specialty Editor-in-Chief at Frontiers in Health Economics, based in Lausanne, Switzerland, with an Impact Factor of 6.461). Additionally, he plays key roles in senior editorial capacity for 20 high-impact journals in the fields of Global Public Health and Health Economics.
